Who Should Take This Exam?
Microsoft aims AB-650 at administrators who configure, manage, secure, and govern Microsoft 365 tenants, workloads, and AI services — including Copilot, agents, and connected AI capabilities — while collaborating with teams across infrastructure, identity, security, and compliance. Candidates should have experience with Microsoft 365 workloads and Microsoft Entra ID, an understanding of Defender XDR, and familiarity with Microsoft Graph PowerShell.
What Does the Exam Cover?
Per Microsoft’s official skills-measured breakdown, the exam spans 3 weighted domains:
- Govern and secure Microsoft 365 tenants and workloads — 40–45%
- Manage and secure AI services in Microsoft 365 — 35–40%
- Configure and manage Microsoft 365 tenants and workloads — 20–25%
Together, governance/security and AI services make up roughly 80% of the exam — this is not a “set up mailboxes and SharePoint sites” test. Expect heavy coverage of Microsoft Entra identity and access management, Microsoft Purview DLP and data security posture management, and — the newest territory — enabling and securing Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork, and agents through Microsoft Entra Agent ID and Agent 365.
How to Prepare
- Get hands-on with Copilot tenant readiness: data oversharing, sensitivity labels, and Purview DSPM for AI activity
- Practice agent lifecycle scenarios in Agent 365 — agent identity, access packages, conditional access, and the agent registry
- Review Microsoft Entra fundamentals: Conditional Access, PIM, authentication methods, and bulk management via Graph PowerShell
- Study Defender for Office 365 threat policies and attack simulation training
- Review Microsoft’s official AB-650 study guide, since it’s the most current source while the exam is still in beta
